Welcome to the Sea! is a bright and interactive English lesson for young learners designed to help children learn and practise sea animal vocabulary through colourful visuals, simple facts, listening activities, movement games and speaking practice.
During the lesson, children meet several familiar sea animals, including a dolphin, octopus, jellyfish, starfish, turtle and fish. Each animal is introduced with clear visual support and short, child-friendly facts. Students learn simple information about what sea animals can do, where they live, what they look like and what makes each animal special.
The lesson includes useful language structures such as It can…, It lives…, It has…, It is… and simple question forms. These repeated patterns help children build basic sentences naturally while practising new vocabulary in context.
Students complete a variety of interactive tasks. They choose the correct answer, count an octopus’s arms, identify colours, match animals with their habitats, compare big and small sea animals, find hidden animals and decide which animal does not belong.
The presentation also includes movement-based activities such as Move like a sea animal!, where children can swim like a fish, jump like a dolphin, move slowly like a turtle and wiggle like a jellyfish. These activities are especially useful for younger learners because they combine language learning with movement and help children remember vocabulary more easily.
Listening practice is included through Listen and Choose activities, where students listen carefully and select the correct sea animal. There are also visual classification and observation tasks that develop attention, memory and simple critical-thinking skills.
The lesson introduces an environmental theme through the Save the Sea! activity. Children can talk about keeping the ocean clean and learn that protecting sea animals is important.
At the end of the lesson, students can choose their favourite sea animal and use simple English phrases to talk about it. This provides an easy and natural opportunity for personalised speaking practice.
This resource is suitable for preschool, kindergarten and primary school learners, as well as young ESL and EFL students. It can be used in individual lessons, small groups or classroom teaching.
